No, this is not recommended. Do not autoclave electronic repeater pipettes like the Rainin NanoRep.
Do not autoclave syringe tips. The extreme conditions in autoclaving (high pressure/high temperature) may alter the physical dimensions of the tip housing (capillary) and/or the piston. Additionally, moisture may be trapped, and this could adversely affect results (i.e. unwanted dilution) in applications that are water sensitive. For applications that require a high level of sterility/cleanliness, it is highly recommended to use pre-sterilized syringe tips that are compatible with the repeater pipette.
The Rainin NanoRep electronic repeater pipette can dispense variable volumes in a sequence using the fixed volumes list in advanced mode. However, switching between fixed volumes requires manual selection between each aliquot. NanoRep cannot be set to dispense, for example 3 different volumes, then dispense those same 3 volumes again, repetitively.
There are a few differences. A repeater pipette is a positive-displacement pipette, where the syringe tip includes a built-in plastic piston that reaches to the opening of the tip.

It’s common practice in pipetting to complete the dispensing of a volume by wiping the end of the pipette tip on the wall of the vessel in order to assure a full dispense. This is “Touch Off” pipetting. Touch Off pipetting makes use of the surface-contact capillary action of liquid to pull any residual droplet off the end of the pipette tip into the dispensing vessel.
A revolutionary new technology in NanoRep allows No Touch Off dispensing. With No Touch Off, a completely full, accurate aliquot can be dispensed without wiping the tip on the wall of the vessel or “touching off.” No contact is made between the pipette and the dispensing vessel.
The gray side buttons on NanoRep are one way to manually dispense aliquots. A downward motion of the joystick also dispenses an aliquot. And NanoRep can also dispense aliquots automatically, at user-set intervals down to 0.5 seconds. With this option – called Auto Pace – no button-pushing is required for dispensing aliquots.
Standard repeaters can be used to dispense a wide range of aliquots. This range is usually between 1 µL and 50 mL. Because of this large range and because of the increments desired within it, it is impossible to use one syringe. For these types of instruments, customers can use up to ten different types of syringe tips to cover the range and they can dispense up to 100 aliquots of any tip's smallest nominal volume (1%).
The Rainin NanoRep only uses 3 tips because of the far higher number of possible aliquots per tip (1,000, compared to 100 on other repeaters). Those repeaters must make up for their fewer possible aliquots per tip by offering a greater number of tip sizes. Alternatively, NanoRep’s far higher number of possible aliquots per tip mean that fewer tips are necessary. NanoRep also offers the largest range by pushing significantly below one microliter – from 100 nanoliters to 50 milliliters.
To charge NanoRep, simply open the gray rubber cover on the top of the device and insert the micro-USB end of the charging cable into the port. Plug the other end of the charging cable into a wall outlet.
Length of charge varies based on usage. NanoRep can be used when it is being charged. In general, if used continuously, NanoRep should work 1.5–2 hours on a single charge.
